Handcrafted traditional English leather furniture
The furniture we create is designed to last a lifetime – providing comfort and sophistication to homes, workplaces and public establishments all over the world. To achieve the very high standards Kingsgate is renowned for, we only use the finest materials and every piece of furniture is handmade by skilled furniture makers using traditional methods of production.
If you have any questions about our products or service, please don’t hesitate to contact us we’re always happy to help and advise.
We only buy full hides of leather, not splits or leather substitutes. We source the best cattle hides from British and European tanners and the colour options available are endless – quite literally. In a similar manner to buying paint, send us a sample of carpet, curtain material or even wallpaper and we will get a very close match.
Free leather samples are available upon request, please contact us for more details.
The appearance of antique leather is that of a traditional two-tone effect. This is particularly suited to Chesterfield and Wing furniture.
Finished leather creates a modern, contemporary look. A huge selection of colours is available to choose from or we can match any sample provided by the customer.
Wood specially selected for strength and durability
The frame is the backbone of the entire piece so using the best possible wood is essential to producing furniture that will last a lifetime and remain in fantastic condition even after years of use.
We use premium quality, seasoned beech hardwood for the frame in every piece of furniture we produce. For added strength all joints are glued, screwed and doweled with screwed corner strengthening blocks.
For furniture with show wood, we use a type of farmed mahogany that is selected for its natural beauty and resilience.
All our standard foams, including cushions, are constructed from the latest highly resilient, flame retardant foam – and tested to BSI standards.
Foam density makes a huge difference to how the furniture feels to sit on. Whether you prefer a softer or firmer cushion is entirely a matter of taste. We offer the choice of fibre and foam wrap or, for extra luxury, feather and down cushions.
All cushions have zipped covers so they can be replaced at a later date.
We individually stud all of our furniture, one by one. Unlike our competitors who opt to use strip nails, our studding method lasts longer and provides a more elegant finish to the piece.
Buttons are attached as part of the upholstery process. For a traditional, classic look, each button is tied by hand deep into the leather.
As the ‘heart’ of any piece of furniture, the suspension is a significant contributing factor to comfort. At Kingsgate we use materials from suppliers carefully chosen for the quality of their products. Depending on the individual furniture type and sitting position, we use serpentine zigzag springs or coil sprung units.
Furniture made to measure
We strongly advise that you visit the Kingsgate factory at different stages of the production process. Some items can be fitted to your back with a special built in bolster, providing you with a piece that fits you exactly. Besides practical reasons, we welcome customers to the factory so you can see how your furniture is made. Watching the intricate process of your piece being handcrafted is fascinating and one that you will always remember when you are enjoying your furniture in the future.
Striving for total customer satisfaction
At Kingsgate Furniture, we don’t work on commission. Our company is built on quality products and experience. We’re passionate about great furniture and we don’t have pushy sales people trying to sell you extras. The quality of our furniture speaks for itself and, as such, much of our business comes from personal recommendation.
