About Leather Sofas, Suites and Arm-chairs from KINGSGATE

LEATHER and LEATHER FINISHES
Our furniture is designed to last a lifetime, and to achieve this, we rely so much on the quality of the LEATHER, therefore, we use only the finest cattle hides from British and European tanners. We cut the leather by hand from the full hides to the templates for each model. For the LEATHER COLOUR FINISHES there are two options - antique finish and plain finish.
ANTIQUE FINISH the temporary coat, that has been inserted by the tannery for this type of finish, is gently removed by hand and use of cloths and solvent, gradually highlighting the raised areas, but leaving the buttoned and deeper areas shaded and darker in order to give the furniture a preserved three dimensional antique effect.

Leather is a natural material and will, therefore, always show evidence of it's origin. Indeed, unavoidable scars and marks do not detract from leather's remarkable resilience and qualities but, on the contrary, enhance the unique character and attractiveness of a natural product. Individual hides will, of course, vary slightly in shade and texture but every effort is made to match the colouring and finish with the samples given.

THE FRAME
The strength and backbone of furniture is the FRAME, so we use only the finest quality seasoned beech hardwood for our sofas and arm-chairs, hardly the cheapest option, but simply the best. We use Beech because it is a straight grained timber with fewer wood knots in it and absence of knots means absence of weak points and straight grained means no warping or twisting. For added strength all joints are doweled and glued with screwed corner strengthening blocks. For the furniture with the show-wood we use Mahogany wood for its natural beauty and resilience.

CUSHIONS and PADDINGS
All our standard foams including cushions are constructed from the latest high resilient, fire retardant foam tested to British Standards. Feather cushions are also available as an option. All of the cushions have zipped covers, so that any cushions can be replaced at a later date. Comfort is all important with any piece of furniture, it's so easy for the result to be too hard or too soft. To achieve the correct balance requires a combination of different high density fillings in different areas in order to ensure lasting shape retention and optimum comfort . Kingsgate products are manufactured using either foam interiors or the more traditional use of hair, fibre, wadding and feather fillings.

SUSPENSION
Different furniture shapes require different suspension systems to produce the correct "feel" to the sitting position. We use either metal serpentine zigzag springs or coil spring units dependent upon the individual furniture shape and the sitting posture required. As the suspension is the "heart" of any piece of furniture, reliability is a high priority and we choose only the finest materials from proven suppliers

BUTTONS
are attached as part of the upholstery process by hand and sunk deep for neatness and security. Kingsgate button won't come loose.

STUDS
are essential to the classic finish. These metal stud nails are individually hand tacked through the leather and into the wooden frame . The available studs are "Old gold speckled", "Brass", "Bulls-eye" and "Oxidised". If you are in doubt please ask for samples.

WOODEN BUN-FEET
is an attractive alternative to castors . These solid wooden bun feet not only give an authentic visual finish to the base of your furniture but also are ideal for wooden or tiled floors.
